Amanda is working on a senior thesis to better understand the origin of a unique archaeal lipid, crenarchaeol, and its significance in microbial membranes. This work involves constraining the relationship of crenarchaeol with various geochemical parameters in hot spring environments to understand environmental controls on its distribution.
