Diana Velazquez

Summer Intern in Harvard's E3 REU Program

Diana Velazquez is a senior at Northwestern University studying Environmental Science. She was part of Harvard’s E3 REU program during the summer of 2020. Through remote research, Diana studied the diversity of carbon metabolisms present in microbial mats by analyzing lipid biomarkers and carbon isotopes. At her home institution, she works in the Blair Lab to investigate the process of carbon sequestration in soil by analyzing different chemical reactivities with soil depth.

Aside from research and studying, Diana enjoys coordinating fun STEM experiments for middle school children as Co-Outreach Chair for her school’s Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) chapter. She is also a proud Chicagoan and loves exploring new parts of the city!
