Yi Yang is a PhD candidate focusing on the development and application of lipid biomarkers to reconstruct palaeoclimate change in the marine environment. Recently, we have been developing a novel marine temperature proxy, RAN13, based on 3-hydroxy fatty acids (a kind of membrane lipid of Gram-negative bacteria), which show great potential for palaeotemperature reconstruction. Now, I am focusing on using tetraether lipids carbon isotopes to investigate the sources of tetraether in marine surface sediments from coastal water to the deep basin and its climatic and environmental implication in geological records.
